The Oceanology International Americas conference will feature Ocean Futures plenary sessions taking place each day in the Ocean Futures Theater. This Ocean Futures forum will focus on unlocking the potential of ocean technologies and ocean information services to support a growing blue economy that balances delivering the vast economic potential of the ocean with meeting key societal challenges such as climate change and the protection of ocean health.
Opening Plenary
The opening plenary will set the scene for the development of the New Blue Economy. Senior representatives from federal and state government and from ocean technology and ocean services businesses will describe their visions for the delivery of a New Blue Economy that will meet the needs of the future.

Senior representatives from federal and state government and from ocean technology and ocean services businesses will discuss and debate their visions for the realization of an effective and equitable future New Blue Economy.
- The New Blue Economy: Responding to climate change
This panel session will consider changes in use of the ocean and ocean resources in response to the challenges of delivering climate change mitigation and adaptation. It will have a particular focus on the rapid development of offshore renewable energy resources and the role of New Blue Economy products and services in delivery of the energy transition.
- The New Blue Economy: Science, innovation and people
Successful delivery of a future New Blue Economy depends on foundational science, effective innovation and availability of a suitably trained workforce. This panel discussion will feature debate between representatives of government, academia and industry concerning initiatives to deliver the science, innovation and skills that are required to unlock the future New Blue Economy.
