Oceanology International is the world’s leading marine science and ocean technology exhibition and conference and has developed into a portfolio of events located around the world.
The event was launched in Brighton in 1969 at a time when the ocean industry was booming due to the newly formed offshore oil and gas industry. About 600 exhibitors and visitors attended from all over the world including SUT, our first ever sponsor that still works with us now!
Look back to footage from the first event:
Throughout the 80s, from its base in Brighton, the biennial event concentrated on steadily building its name as the world’s largest state of the art ocean technology event dedicated to bringing the worldwide industry together.
Throughout the 90’s the Oceanology International programme grew rapidly and the exhibition hosted over 500 exhibitors. In 1994 Oi celebrated its 25th anniversary with 11 exhibitors still there since the very first show.
The turn of the century marked the move from Brighton to Excel in London, a move driven to continue the growth of its international clientele. In 2013 Oceanology International launched Oi China in Shanghai, connecting the international ocean research and technology communities with the Chinese market.
The 2016 event brought together the largest audience in its history, as it cemented its position as an innovative and progressive event, renowned for bringing together marine professional across Industry, Academia and Government. 2017 saw the launch of Oceanology International North America in San Diego, to further connect the global market with the North American audience.
In 2019 we will be celebrating Oi’s 50th anniversary in San Diego for Oi Americas second edition.
Over the years the Oi portfolio has established itself as a truly global portfolio with events in London, China and San Diego.
The three day conference and exhibition will be returning in February 2019 as Oceanology International Americas broadens its reach to the rest of the Americas. This is with the aim of welcoming over 2,700 attendees and enabling more than 200 exhibitors to showcase the latest ocean technologies and industry developments on the trade show floor as well as on water demos and vessels.
Attracting visitors from a variety of industries including offshore oil & gas, ports & harbours, marine renewables, maritime security and marine science, Oceanology International gives the opportunity for buyers and suppliers to do business in one location.
